Partnered Parishes in the Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne
History
We are two bayside parishes, partnered from 1 January 2024 (Parish of St Patrick & St John Vianney, Mentone-Parkdale East; and Nazareth Parish, Ricketts Point) – each one itself a prior amalgamation: (St Patrick and the Holy Angels, Mentone (established 1904) & St John Vianney’s, Parkdale East (established 1970) [amalgamated 2006]; St Joseph’s, Black Rock (established 1930) & Stella Maris, Beaumaris (established 1957) [amalgamated 2008]).
The Parish of Mentone was created in 1904, when the area encompassing Mentone, Parkdale, Beaumaris, Black Rock, Sandringham, Cheltenham, Highett, Mordialloc, Edithvale, and Chelsea was cut off from the “Brighton Mission”, which was ministered by priests at St James, Gardenvale.
