Will what we say and do bring us closer to Jesus?

Dear parishioners,

Dear parishioners,

The Fifth Plenary Council of Australia begins today. You might remember being involved in some parish-based discussion sessions in 2019 in preparation for this event.

A Plenary Council is the highest formal gathering of all the local Catholic Churches. The Council is being held to discuss and pray about the future of the Catholic Church in Australia. It will meet every day until Saturday 10 October. All sessions are being held online due to the pandemic.

If you would like to follow the progress of the Council, I encourage you to do via the official website at:

As a member of the Plenary Council, I will be spending the next online! I would ask for your prayers for me and the other 277 members of the Council, as we discuss and pray about the future of the Church in Australia.

Instead of my usual homily, I attach a link to the homily preached by Archbishop Timothy Costelloe this afternoon at the Opening Mass of the Fifth Plenary Council of Australia:

With best wishes and the promise of my prayers,

Fr Cameron Forbes PP
